The hard truths of being a mum to a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old:

I don’t get breaks anymore.
When the baby sleeps, the toddler is awake.

We’re home almost all the time now — I used to be out living life, now 90% of it happens inside these walls.

Only two friends have come to visit. The isolation hits hard.

I don’t drive alone anymore. The baby screams, and every trip feels overwhelming.

One-on-one time is rare — with either of them. Someone always needs me.

I am constantly touched out. Constantly overstimulated. Running on empty feels normal now.

Some days are pure survival.

But even on the hardest days, I’m showing up. I’m meeting the impossible, juggling it all, loving fiercely, and still standing.

This season is relentless — but so am I.
Blessed.

I don’t think anyone really prepares you for the strange grief that can come with having your second baby.

Because you’re obviously so in love with this new little person, but at the same time, something has changed.

You no longer have your first child all to yourself.

The one-on-one time changes. Your routines change. Your relationship changes.

And I remember feeling guilty for missing how things used to be.

Because how could I possibly miss that version of motherhood when I was so grateful for another baby?

But I’ve realised that missing something doesn’t mean you don’t love what you have now.

You can be completely obsessed with your second baby and still miss the days when it was just you and your first.

You can be grateful and still grieve a little.

I think motherhood holds so many of those contradictions.

And maybe we need to talk about them more, because I can’t be the only mum who has felt this. 🤍

If you’re a mum of two, did you ever feel this?
Hot mamma pending…
Last time I did this, I had a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old.

Now I have a 14-month-old and a 3-year-old… and the hard has completely changed. 😂

My 14-month-old is walking — basically running — so going anywhere feels like an extreme sport. I’m trying to keep up with him while also keeping an eye on my 3-year-old and making sure they both get what they need.

Then there’s the sibling battles…

My 3-year-old wants me to play with her, but doesn’t want her little brother involved. She wants Mummy to herself, while he sees us playing and immediately wants to join in. 😂

They both want the same toy, even though there are 50 others around them. And whatever one has, the other suddenly NEEDS.

So I’m constantly refereeing, comforting, sharing, taking turns and trying to keep everyone happy.

All while trying to give them both 1-1 time, work, run the house and somehow find time for me too.

I want to start going to the gym — not to “bounce back”, but to feel stronger, healthier and like myself again. But with no regular childcare, finding that time is HARD.

And honestly, I truly love this life.

I love being their mum. I love the cuddles, the chaos and watching them grow together.

But some days?

I am so bloody exhausted and overstimulated. 😂

And I’m learning that both things can be true.

I can love my children endlessly and still need a break.

I can be grateful and still find it hard.

I can love being a mum and still want to feel like me.

So if you’re in this season too, remember — you’re not failing, you’re just doing something really bloody hard.

And even on the days you feel like you have nothing left to give, you’re still showing up.

That is something to be proud of. 🤍
Home.
Basically I’m a walking dot to dot puzzle.
